Job Announcement: Development Director
Permanent Position 1.0 FTE with full benefits
Upstream Public Health is seeking a dynamic and well-organized Development Director to build a robust development program at our growing non-profit. The Development Director will contribute to the overall strategy of the organization and oversee the execution of the development plan, including
stewardship and growth of individual donors, corporate sponsors and foundation grants, as well as event management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a development plan that includes strategies for establishing and building individual, corporate, and foundation donor programs, execute the plan and track progress.
- Oversee the development of organizational materials; donor thank you letters; annual newsletter; and any other formal correspondence representing Upstream to donors.
- Coordinate all donor solicitations, including an annual major gifts campaign.
- Coordinate an event-planning committee to organize two events per year.
- Coordinate grant application process (including grant writing)
- Ensure all grant compliance, including fund use and outcome reporting
- Cultivate relationships with corporate sponsors
- Actively manage and expand the Development Committee to include fundraising volunteers focused on marketing, promotion and individual donor solicitations.
- Produce development report for the Board of Directors and present information at the bimonthly board meetings.
- Motivate and inspire board and staff to be engaged in development and promotional activities.
Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, familiarity with new technology and social media
- Experience working with donor databases. Experience with CiviCRM or Highrise is a plus
- Strong leadership abilities
- Significant track record of community involvement
- Highly-respected by corporate, government and nonprofit leaders
- Deep understanding of the nonprofit sector and of the forces shaping the industry
- Success in developing and managing meaningful person-to-person relationships
- Success in building high-profile, non-profit brands
- High ethical and professional standards
- Commitment to professional development and organizational learning
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years fundraising experience and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. Must have a genuine enthusiasm for health and prevention and, in particular, the mission, goals and values of Upstream.
