2008 Policy PrioritiesDisplay nutrition information in fast food and other chain restaurantsMultnomah County recently passed an order to require the disclosure of nutrition information in chain restaurants. Now, Upstream Public Health and others are advocating for a statewide nutrition labeling law. (Click here to read more) Incorporate healthier Oregon foods into school mealsUpstream has advocated to the 2008 legislature to create a program at the Department of Education to promote healthier, Oregon food proudcts in local schools and promote teaching gardens around the state. (Click here to read more) Design healthier communities and transportation systemsWe are promoting healthier designs in the Portland Comprehensive Plan, the Regional Transportation Plan, and statewide. We seek to raise awareness about how health can be promoted with smart planning in projects such as the Columbia River Crossing. We are also promoting the use of assessments of the impact of large development projects on human health. |
