We have worked to improve school foods, reduce smoking, fight cavities, and improve health through community design.

School Nutrition Standards

In 2003, Upstream originated legislation to get junk food out of schools, which became House Bill 2650 in 2007. As part of a broad coalition led by the Oregon Nutrition Policy Alliance, we advocated for the passage of the bill in 2007. Read more about our successful campaign to get junk food out of schools.

Smoking Prevention

We also commissioned an economic study with the support of the Northwest Health Foundation about the effects of a tobacco tax on low-income families. Read more about our report written by a world-reknowned tobacco economist.
